Description

Description

Specifically detects Bcl-2 (20-34) Clone: in Mouse, Rat samples, and it is validated for Western Blotting

Thebcl-2 proto-oncogene is encoded by a gene 230 kb in size that gives rise to a 24-26kDa protein which has been localized to the inner mitochondrial membrane. Although some data exists for implicatingbcl-2 as a novel GTP binding protein, the major function ofbcl-2 appears to be an inhibitor of apoptosis or programmed cell death. It has now been well documented thatbcl-2 becomes deregulated in tumor cells as a result of translocation into the immunoglobulin heavy-chain locus and is therefore constitutively activated in B cell malignancies (i.e. follicular lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia). In addition,bcl-2 has also been shown to protect mammalian cells from sodium azide, colchicine, DNA, RNA, and protein-synthesis inhibitors, as well as steroids, heat shock, and irradiation.
