Description

MA1-40186 detects C9 from human samples. MA1-40186 has been successfully used in flow cytometry, ELISA, functional assays, Western blot, and immunohistochemistry (paraffin and frozen) applications. The MA1-40186 immunogen is the C-terminal region of human C9. Endotoxin <24 EU/mg.

Human C9 is a soluble glycoprotein of 61 kD. It participates in the formation of the Membrane Attack Complex (MAC). The MAC assembles on bacterial membranes to form a pore, permitting disruption of bacterial membrane organization. When the complement is activated on target membranes, multiple copies of C9 bind to the C5b-8 complex and assemble the barrel-shaped pore which causes cell lysis. The conformation of C9 changes from globular to a tubular form. The binding of C9 to C5b-8 plays a key role in the function of C9. Mutations in this gene cause component C9 deficiency.
