DescriptionCXCR7/RDC1 is a 362 amino acid CXC chemokine receptor involved in a number of pathobiologic processes, including cell growth, survival and adhesion, and tumor growth. It belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. Though CXCR7 was previously identified as a receptor for vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), it is now considered as an orphan receptor in that its endogenous ligand has not been identified. It is an alternative receptor for CXCL12/SDF1 and ITAC (CXCL11) as well as acts as a co-receptor with CXCR4 for a restricted number of HIV isolates. Reports suggest that CXCR7 may act as a link between inflammation and cancer. This membrane protein is usually expressed in monocytes, basophils, and B-cells while low expression is also seen in CD4+ T-lymphocytes and natural killer cells.
