DescriptionBcr, receptor tyrosine kinase (also known as breakpoint cluster region or C-abl oncogene 1) is an intracellular protein belonging to the protein kinase superfamily and Tyr protein kinase family. It is a proto-oncogene with a SH2 domain, a SH3 domain and a protein kinase domain. Purified Bcr is known to contain autophosphorylation activity and transphosphorylation activity for several substrates. The function of this protein includes promoting the exchange of RAC or CDC42-bound GDP by GTP thereby activating them and hence acting as a GTPase activating protein. Moreover, PCAF and BCR signalling are essential for apoptotic cell death (PCAF and BCR signalling control cooperatively pre-mature B cell apoptosis via both depletions of DFFA and BIRC2). Ubiquitous expression of Bcr is seen in most tissues. Bcr with Abl1, in reciprocal translocation between chromosomes 22 and 9, produces the Philadelphia chromosome, which is often found in patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia.
