PA1-20650 detects 5-HT1B Receptor in human samples. PA1-20650 has been successfully used in immunohistochemistry (paraffin) procedures. The PA1-20650 immunogen is a synthetic peptide corresponding to the third cytoplasmic loop of human 5-HT1B Receptor.

This is one of the several different receptors for 5- hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), a biogenic hormone that functions as a neurotransmitter, a hormone, and a mitogen. The activity of this receptor is mediated by G proteins that inhibit adenylate cyclase activity. The 5-HT1B receptor has been reported to be expressed in a variety of neurons predomitly in the central nervous system. It has been suggested that Human 5-HT1B receptors are located somatodendritically on GABAergic and peptidergic caudate-putamen neurons which project to the substantia nigra and globus pallidus, where these receptors are presynaptic. 5-HT1B expression has also been seen in heart, blood vessels, and eye.
