Spectrum™ Capsaicin, Natural is an irritant that produces a burning sensation when it comes into contact with tissue. It is the active component of the genus Capsicum plant and belong to chili pepper family. In its pure form it is a waxy to crystalline compound that is colorless, odorless, volatile and hydrophobic. It is commonly used in food products as an additive to give a spicy or "heat" taste sensation. In the medical realm it is used as an analgesic in nasal spays, topical ointments and in dermal patches to relieve pain. Ungraded products supplied by Spectrum are indicative of a grade suitable for general industrial use or research purposes and typically are not suitable for human consumption or therapeutic use.
