CD48 Mouse anti-Human, Functional Grade, Clone: eBio156-4H9 (156-4H9), eBioscience™
Mouse Monoclonal Antibody
Manufacturer: Invitrogen 16048985
Description: The eBio156-4H9 monoclonal antibody reacts with the human CD48 antigen, also known as B cell activation marker 1, SLAM family member 2, Blast-1 (human), and OX-45 (rat). CD48, a member of the SLAM family and Ig superfamily, is a 45 kDa GPI-linked glycoprotein expressed on the majority of hematopoietic cells. CD2 is the low affinity ligand for CD48.Recent publications have reported differential expression in mice of members of the SLAM family including CD48, CD150, and CD244 among functionally distinct bone marrow hematopoietic progenitors providing a useful tool for prediction of the primitiveness of hematopoietic progenitors. Expression of CD48 in hematopoietic cells is found on many leukocytes with little to none on granulocytes and absent on platelets and erythrocytes. Expression increases on B cells with activation. Applications Reported: This eBio156-4H9 (156-4H9) antibody has been reported for use in flow cytometric analysis and functional assay. Applications Tested: This eBio156-4H9 (156-4H9) antibody has been tested by flow cytometric analysis of normal human peripheral blood cells. This can be used at less than or equal to 0.5 µg per test. A test is defined as the amount (µg) of antibody that will stain a cell sample in a final volume of 100 µL. Cell number should be determined empirically but can range from 10^5 to 10^8 cells/test.It is recommended that the antibody be carefully titrated for optimal performance in the assay of interest. Endotoxin: Less than 0.001 ng/ug antibody as determined by the LAL assay. Storage and handling: Use in a sterile environment. Filtration: 0.2 μm post-manufacturing filtered. Purity: Greater than 90%, as determined by SDS-PAGE. Endotoxin Level: Less than 0.001 ng/μg antibody, as determined by LAL assay. Aggregation: Less than 10%, as determined by HPLC. CD48 (Blast-1) belongs to the CD2 subset of the Ig superfamily that includes CD2, CD2F-10, CD58, CD84, CD150, CD229, CD244 and others. These molecules bind to the same or another members of the Ig family, thus mediating homotypic or heterotypic adhesion. CD48 is a GPI-anchored protein broadly expressed on hematopoietic cells and serves as a high affinity ligand for 2B4 and low affinity ligand for CD2. 2B4-CD48 interaction among NK cells and NK-T cells regulates cell proliferation. Further, signaling through CD48 results in eosinophil activation and CD48 expression is increased in several infectious diseases. CD48 is strongly expressed on lymphocytes and monocytes, weakly on granulocytes but is absent on platelets, fibroblasts, epithelium and endothelium. CD48 is one of marker for detecting the defects of GPI anchoring structure on the patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobulinuria (PNH) and serves as a low affinity ligand for CD2. 2B4-CD48 interaction may be involved in the pathology of allergic airway diseases and provide a pharmacological target for the treatment of diseases such as allergic rhinitis and asthma.
