Klotho is a novel protein, found in several species. It is important for it′s activity as a hormone, circulating through the blood and binding to cells. Therapies based on klotho could eventually prove to be a way to extend life or slow its effects. The Klotho gene seems to delay many of the effects of old age, such as the weakening of bones, clogging of the arteries and loss of muscle fitness.
