Myelin Monoclonal Antibody (2B5), Invitrogen™
Mouse Monoclonal Antibody
Supplier: Thermo Scientific MA135712
Description
This antibody reacts exclusively with myelin sheaths in Immunohistochemistry. In paraffin sections, the antibody recognizes myelin in the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS). In frozen sections, it will also weakly recognize myelin in the Central Nervous System (CNS). This antibody may be used to study myelination and demyelination processes in the PNS, and remyelination processes in the CNS, as observed after trauma and in multiple sclerosis. A recommended positive control is Peripheral nerves. This product is applicable for acetone-fixed frozen sections and formaldehyde paraffin sections and cell preparations. No pretreatment is necessary. Dilute immediately before use with PBS or Tris.
Myelin is a membrane characteristic of the nervous tissue and functions as an insulator to increase the velocity of the stimuli being transmitted between a nerve cell body and its target. Myelin isolated from human and bovine nervous tissue is composed of approximately 80% lipid and 20% protein, and 30% of the protein fraction constitutes myelin basic protein.
