C. difficile is a major cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea and colitis. The virulence of C. difficile is believed to be mediated by the production of two toxins (Toxin A and Toxin B). Both toxin genes genes (tcdA and tcdB, respectively) are located within a 19.6 Kb pathogenicity locus (PaLoc), along with 3 other gene products.
