Supplier: Thermo Scientific™ R01859
Description
Selectively isolate β-hemolytic Group A Streptococcus from throat cultures and upper respiratory specimens using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Strep Selective II Agar (w/colistin, oxolinic acid). Pacifico at al. demonstrated the isolation of β-hemolyic streptococci is improved with the use of a selective medium which inhibits oropharyngeal commensal microbial flora1. In 1984, Pelts developed a selective medium containing colistin and oxolinic acid2. This medium was valuable for isolation of streptococci from mixed flora, resulting in increased isolation rates and early identification of isolates.
Colistin and oxolinic acid allow growth of streptococci while inhibiting staphylococci, coryneforms, and gram-negative microorganisms.Specifications
