Cluster of Differentiation 63 (CD63) recombinant human protein is supplied as a lyophilized powder. This protein is suitable for use in analysis of protein structure. In general, recombinant proteins can also be used as an immunogen, as a protein standard, or in cell biology research applications. Background: CD63, is a multipass membrane protein which belongs to the tetraspanin (TM4SF) family. Tetraspanins participate in a variety of cellular processes, like cell activation, adhesion, differentiation and tumour invasion. CD63/Tspan-30 is expressed in melanoma and appears to be involved in regulation of motility and adhesion of melanoma cells. CD63/Tspan-30 is associated with early stages of melanoma tumor progression. It may play a role in growth regulation. Lack of expression of CD63 in platelets has been observed in a patient with Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome (HPS), which is a genetically heterogeneous, rare, autosomal recessive disorder characterized by oculocutaneous albinism, bleeding due to platelet storage pool deficiency, and lysosomal storage defects.
