Many parts of your microscope can be updated or replaced including microscope lamps, lenses, and eyepieces. Replacement lamps, light sources, and power cords can extend the working lives of your microscopy equipment. New or replacement objectives and lenses can help increase the total magnification available with your microscope.
Add greater magnification or exchange your eyepiece for one with a reticule to more easily estimate the sizes of the items being viewed.
Replace or update your mechanical stage or clamps or add cell culture vessel adapters to facilitate specimen positioning.
Condensers can also be replaced, and conversion kits are available to add phase contrast, polarization, fluorescence, or other capabilities to your current system.
Some microscopes can be adapted for use with still or video cameras. Look for cameras and adapters designed for your specific microscope brand. Film and documentation-related products may also be available to support your record-keeping.
Temporary, semi-permanent, and more long-term slide storage options include:
- Slide racks that securely hold slides during staining procedures
- Folding fiberboard or plastic slide holders with horizontal indentations that keep microscope slides in place
- Slide storage boxes with vertical dividers; made from fiberboard, plastic, and wood and available in multiple sizes

- Slide storage systems and cabinets for large quantities of slides or archival storage
Electron Microscopy Sciences Microscope Graticule NE5 Horizontal, 19 mm, 5 mm with 0.05 mm subdivisions
These scales are used for the measuring of lengths of specimen or distances between points on a variety of different shaped objects. By dividing the division of the chosen graticule by the magnification of the objective one obtains an approximate value that each division will represent on the stage. Vertical micrometer scale.

Ted Pella Inc Diffraction Grating Replica and Latex Calibration Standard
Two-in-one; this standard for calibration provides a double-check of the accuracy of magnification calibration. It is particularly useful at higher magnification. The latex sphere size is 0.261 µm and the carbon grating replica with Au/Pd shadowing is 2160 lines/mm. Supplied on a G400, 400 square mesh copper Gilder grid.

For optimum viewing, fluorescent screens should be recoated regularly. Viewing screens are easily damaged by the electron beam, especially at high accelerating voltages where knock-on damage can be severe. Sutter Instruments Micromanipulators
Right-handed micromanipulator with vertical lock with 1/2 inch rod clamps. The MM-33 is the right choice for tight environments which require maximum versatility within a small space. Stainless steel cross-loaded roller bearings are designed to offer low friction and smooth linear motion with a minimum of side play. The pre-loaded rollers are set at 90 degrees to the hardened steel guides insuring constant contact and accuracy. This precise rack and pinion drive gives stable, drift-free movement with minimal backlash. The controls are placed one above the other which makes for less hand movement and easier positioning. The scales for all axes are calibrated in 0.10mm increments and the fine micrometer adjustment for the X-axis thrust is calibrated at 0.01mm with estimates to 5μm.

Electron Microscopy Sciences Gilder Thin Bar Square 1500 mesh Copper Grid
Very fine mesh grids have up to 2,000 lines/inch. There is an increasing need in TEM for support films, routinely carbon, as thin as 1.5 - 2.0 nm. The pitch (the distance from the center of one bar to the center of the next bar) dimension in all grids remains constant, allowing use as a lower magnification calibration aid.
Apart from one side being shiny, the other matt, there is a large asymmetrical mark in the rim which gives the identification of which side the specimen is on. Grids are 3.05 mm overall diameter; 2.05 mm mesh area diameter.

Electron Microscopy Sciences Walton & Beckett Graticule G24, 16 mm, 5:1 ratio
The Walton and Beckett graticule is for counting fibrous dust (asbestos or glass fibers) and particularly where the majority of fibers to be counted are shorter than 5 microns. The circle is divided into four by two diametrical lines scaled in units of 5 and 3 microns respectively. 3 and 5 microns are the critical measurements of fiber lengths and diameters used in fiber counting. Walton and Beckett include shapes with an aspect ratio of 3:1 or 5:1 for comparing to fibers.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The circle on these Walton & Beckett graticules must represent 100 microns at the stage and each one must be manufactured to the individual instrument. 5:1 ratio is useful where the majority of fibers to be counted are shorter than 5 um.

Electron Microscopy Sciences MicroMounts™ Crystal Tool with 75 µm Aperture and 19 mm pin
MicroMounts are the high performance tools for manipulating and mounting protein crystals, virus crystals, and small molecule/inorganic crystals, and other small, fragile samples. They are ideal for both conventional and high-throughput X-ray crystallography applications.
Each consist of a thin (7.5um thick) micro-fabricated polyimide film, attached to a solid non-magnetic stainless steel pin. Film is wrapped around the steel pin and it provides excellent stiffness and convenient scoop-like action in retrieving and handling crystals.

Ted Pella Inc Carbon Film only on 400 mesh, Copper, 50/pk
Carbon films with a thickness of 15-25nm with no Formvar used during manufacturing. Completely free of Formvar. Carbon films are thin and highly transparent to electrons. They exhibit very fine grain and minimal interference with specimen structure. Films are ready to use upon receipt. The pure carbon films tend to be more delicate than support films with a Formvar backing and require more delicate handling during specimen preparation.
