Histones play a critical role in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression, and developmental events. Histone acetylation/deacetylation alters chromosome structure and affects transcription factor access to DNA. The protein encoded by this gene belongs to class II of the histone deacetylase/acuc/apha family. It contains an internal duplication of two catalytic domains which appear to function independently of each other. This protein possesses histone deacetylase activity and represses transcription.

This Cre contains a nuclear localization signal (NLS).Cre recombinase is a Type I topoisomerase from P1 bacteriophage that catalyzes site-specific recombination of DNA between loxP sites. loxP is a 34 bp DNA sequence at which confers directionality. Cre recombinase is used as a tool to genetically modify genes, such as to delete a segment of DNA flanked by LoxP sites in cultured cells or experimental animals.

GCaMP is a genetically encoded calcium indicator (GECI) which was created from a fusion of green fluorescent protein (GFP), calmodulin, and M13, a peptide sequence from myosin light chain kinase. GECI binds Ca2+ and induce a change in fluorescence signal, which allows measuring action potentials and other receptor activation events that trigger Ca2+ fluxes. The advantage of GECI's are that they can be genetically specified for studies in living organisms.The new novel GCaMP6 have increased ΔF/F0 and faster kinetics compared to previous GCaMP3 and GCaMP5G.This adenovirus expresses GCaMP6f.

The c-IAPs associate with TRAF1 and TRAF2 through their N-terminal BIR motif-containing domain. IAP-like protein (ILP) also contains an N-terminal BIR motif-containing domain. ILP inhibits activated caspase-3, leading to the resistance of FAS-mediated apoptosis. An additional IAP family member, survivin (also designated TIAP), is expressed in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle and associates with microtubules of the mitotic spindles. Caspase-3 activity increases when a disruption of survivin-microtubule interactions occurs.
