2-Hydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde is a potent tyrosinase inhibitor and an isomer of Vanillin. It can be used to synthesize Urolithin M7 and inhibits the oxidation of L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA) by mushroom tyrosinase with an ID50 of 4.3 μg/mL (0.03 mM). It appears as an off-white to light brown solid, being a solid below 41°C and liquid above 43°C.
