Amylin, amide, rat is a potent, high-affinity ligand for Amylin receptor AMY1 and AMY3 receptors, and variably for AMY2 receptors. This 37 amino acid glucoregulatory hormone, belonging to the calcitonin family of peptides, is synthesized with insulin in the beta cells of pancreatic islets. It regulates glucose homeostasis by inhibiting gastric emptying, suppressing glucagon release, and inducing meal-ending satiety, thereby protecting against postprandial blood glucose spikes and overeating.
