This monoclonal antibody reacts with human and monkey CD28, a 45 kDa costimulatory receptor from the Ig superfamily, expressed by thymocytes, most peripheral T cells, and NK cells. It acts as a receptor for CD80 (B7-1) and CD86 (B7-2). Signaling through the antibody augments IL-2 and IL-2 receptor expression, and enhances cytotoxicity of CD3-activated T cells. It has demonstrated in vitro stimulation of human T cell proliferation.
