Bafilomycin B1 is a macrolide antibiotic isolated from mycelium of *Streptomyces gresuis*. It acts as a neuroprotective agent against Chloroquine-induced death and is a structural analog of Bafilomycin A1, capable of inhibiting V-ATPase. Bafilomycin B1 also significantly inhibits the oxidized low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-induced accumulation of lipid droplets.
- Significantly inhibits chloroquine-induced death of cerebellar granule neurons.
- Attenuates chloroquine-induced cell death in SH-SY5Y cells.
- Inhibits [14C]oleate incorporation into cholesteryl esters in J774 cells.
- Inhibits surface binding, intracellular accumulation, and degradation of oxidized 125I-LDL.
- Inhibits endosomal and lysosomal functions.
- Causes a reduction of cell surface receptors for oxidized LDL.
- Offers protection against α-synuclein-induced dopaminergic degeneration in worms.
