Atazanavir sulfate is a highly selective and orally active HIV-1 protease inhibitor with blood-brain barrier permeability. It functions as both a substrate and inhibitor of CYP3A4 and an inhibitor of P-glycoprotein (P-gp). This compound also acts as a SARS-CoV 3CLpro inhibitor with an IC50 of 3.49 μM and has demonstrated efficacy in inhibiting cardiac fibrosis, hyperlipidemia, and inducing malignant glioma cell death.
