BODIPY 581/591 C11 (CAS 217075-36-0) is a cell-permeable ratiometric fluorescent probe used to detect lipid peroxidation and evaluate antioxidant capacity in biological membranes or live cells Under reduced conditions it displays red fluorescence at excitation/emission wavelengths of approximately 581/591 nm Upon oxidation of its polyunsaturated butadienyl segment by reactive oxygen species (e g hydroxyl radicals peroxynitrite) emission shifts from 590 nm to 510 nm resulting in green fluorescence (excitation/emission around 488/510 nm) Its specificity and photostability make BODIPY 581/591 C11 suitable for quantifying lipid oxidative stress in biomedical research
