Brilliant Green Agar with Novobiocin is a selective culture medium used for the isolation and presumptive identification of Salmonella species from food, dairy, and environmental samples. The formulation contains brilliant green dye and bile salts that inhibit many competing microorganisms, while the addition of novobiocin enhances selectivity by suppressing additional Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. Salmonella colonies typically develop as red to pink or white colonies against the green background of the medium, enabling visual differentiation from other organisms. Each plate contains approximately 20mL of agar poured to a consistent depth for reliable colony formation and streaking performance. These ready to use plates are commonly used in food safety testing laboratories, regulatory monitoring programs, and microbiology research facilities.
