Chenodeoxycholic acid sodium (CDCA sodium) is a hydrophobic primary bile acid intended for research use. It activates nuclear receptors (FXR) involved in cholesterol metabolism. In vitro studies demonstrate its ability to inhibit 11β-HSD2, stimulate cell growth by inducing Cyclin D1 expression via the TGR5-dependent pathway, and increase LDL receptor and HMG-CoA reductase mRNA levels. It also induces short-circuit current (Isc) and activates C/EBPβ and AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK).
