cis-4-Hydroxy-L-proline is an orally active proline analog that acts as a collagen production inhibitor. It prevents the deposition of triple helical collagen on the cell layer, thereby inhibiting cell growth. This compound has been shown to inhibit N-nitrosomethylurea-induced breast tumor growth, improve lung compliance, and reduce prostate weight. It is useful in studies related to hypoxic pulmonary hypertension.
