Clodronic acid (Clodronate) disodium salt is a first-generation bisphosphonate and an orally active osteoclastic bone resorption inhibitor. It is used in high bone turnover states, Paget's disease, and osteolytic bone metastases. It induces rapid apoptosis in osteoclasts by inhibiting ATP production.
