Dulbecco's Modified Eagle's Medium (DMEM) is a modification of Basal Medium Eagle (BME), containing four-fold concentrations of the amino acids and vitamins found in BME, as well as additional supplementary components. The original formulation of DMEM contained 1000mg/L of glucose, but since has been raised in some modifications to 4500mg/L, giving the terms of Low Glucose or High Glucose. Several other modifications over the years, in addition to the alternative glucose levels, have broadened the spectrum of cell types supported by DMEM. DMEM (liquid), Low glucose with L-glutamine, item #785040, contains a pyridoxine hydrochloride supplement and 110 mg/L sodium pyruvate, no phenol red.
