Doxazosin (UK 33274) is a quinazoline-derivative that selectively antagonizes postsynaptic α1-adrenergic receptors. It is a long-lasting inhibitor of α1-adrenoceptors, widely used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia and lower urinary tract symptoms. Doxazosin may also have a direct inhibitory effect on cholesterol synthesis, independent of the LDL receptor, which could lead to an upregulation of the LDL receptor, increasing lipoprotein cholesterol importation and reducing LDL cholesterol in the medium. This product is for research use only and not sold to patients.
