Encephalomyocarditis virus (M-variant) is a tissue culture-passaged viral isolate used as a murine infection model and for studies of virus-induced diabetes. Supplied as a frozen stock for propagation in susceptible cell lines under standard tissue culture conditions.
- M-variant, tissue culture passaged.
- Propagate on NCTC clone 929 (L-929) cells.
- Complete medium: EMEM with 10% fetal bovine serum.
- Incubation: 4-10 days at 37°C in 5% CO2.
- Storage: -70°C or colder.
- May lose diabetogenic properties after multiple cell culture passages.
- Source: originally isolated from mouse heart.
