Use fibroblast growth factor acidic (FGF-acidic) to activate DNA synthesis, cell proliferation, and chemotaxis, as well as regulate development, regeneration, and angiogenesis (Jaye et al. Science, 1986; Galzie et al. Biochem Cell Biol, 1997; Presta et al. Cytokine Growth Factor Rev, 2005). FGF-acidic signals through protein kinase C, promoting cell survival by inhibiting p53 and proapoptotic signaling (Bouleau et al. Oncogene, 2005). FGF-acidic is found in large quantities in the brain and is capable of activating all cells of mesodermal origin and many cells of neuroectodermal, ectodermal, and endodermal origin.
