Glipizide (CP 2872; K 4024) is a potent, orally active sulfonylurea class anti-diabetic agent used for type 2 diabetes mellitus research, but not for type 1. It functions by partially blocking ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels in the β cells of pancreatic islets of Langerhans.
