Glycolithocholic acid 3-sulfate (SLCG) is a cholic acid derivative and a metabolite of glycolithocholic acid. It inhibits the replication of HIV-1 in vitro and can be utilized for research related to HIV infection and gallbladder disease. It protects MT-4 cells against HIV-1-induced cytopathogenicity and inhibits HIV-1 antigen expression in HIV-1-infected CEM cells. In animal models, it induces intrahepatic cholestasis and increases biliary cholesterol secretion.

  • Inhibits E217betaG uptake in membrane vesicles from MRP4-expressing HEK-293 cells with an IC50 of 10 μM.
  • Protects MT-4 cells against HIV-1-induced cytopathogenicity at 100 μg/mL.
  • Shows no toxicity for host cells at 200 μg/mL.
  • Inhibits HIV-1 antigen expression in HIV-1-infected CEM cells.
  • Induces intrahepatic cholestasis and increases biliary cholesterol secretion in male Wistar rats (24 μmoL/100 g; i.v., once).
