Inhibit ALK1, ALK2, ALK3, and ALK6 with LDN193189 (Sanvitale et al. PLoS One, 2013). This bone morphogenetic (BMP) pathway inhibitor promotes the differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells to neural progenitor cells (Chambers et al. Nat Biotechnol, 2012; Kriks et al. Nature, 2011) and neural crest cells (Kreitzer et al. Am J Stem Cells, 2013). LDN193189 is used in cancer research to prevent ovarian cancer cell proliferation (Tsai et al. Cell Rep, 2012) and inhibit prostate and breast cancer tumor growth (Balboni et al. Cancer Res, 2013; Lee et al. Neuropsychopharmacology, 2016).
