McCoy's 5A Media (modified) was originally developed by McCoy and his co-workers in 1959 and was known then as Basal Medium 5A. McCoy published the research he had conducted regarding the Basal Medium 5A, which detailed the amino acid requirements for the culture of Novikoff Hepatoma Cells. Basal Medium 5A was subsequently modified resulting in a similar media known as McCoy's 5A Media. Iwakata and Grace further modified the medium for use in work with human myeloblasts. McCoy's 5A liquid media, item #785117, contains L-glutamine.
