The formulation uses creatine as the primary nitrogen source and sucrose as the carbon source, while bromocresol purple serves as a pH indicator to detect metabolic activity. Organisms capable of strong acid production turn the medium from purple to yellow, whereas weak or non acid producing species leave the medium unchanged.
