Nitroprusside disodium dihydrate is a vasodilator used for research into acute hypertension and heart failure. It induces autophagy in glutathione-depleted osteoblasts and acts as a nitric oxide (NO) donor in a rat intestinal ischemia reperfusion model. It also sensitizes human gastric cancer cells to tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL)-induced apoptosis.
