Pargyline (hydrochloride) (CAS 306-07-0) is an irreversible non-selective inhibitor of monoamine oxidases (MAO) targeting both MAO-A (IC 11 52 nM) and MAO-B (IC 8 2 nM) MAO-A predominantly deaminates neurotransmitters such as melatonin serotonin norepinephrine and epinephrine while MAO-B primarily acts on certain catecholamines In vitro pargyline inhibits proliferation and induces G1 phase cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in human prostate carcinoma (LNCaP-LN3) cells In vivo studies in rats have shown that pargyline administration increases striatal extracellular dopamine levels and decreases MAO-derived metabolites These properties support its utility in neuropharmacological and oncology research
