Pefloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that functions by inhibiting DNA gyrase, thereby blocking DNA replication. It also inhibits DNA relaxation catalyzed by topoisomerase I with an IC₅₀ of 45 μg/mL. This antibiotic exhibits activity against various bacteria including *Escherichia coli*, *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, and *Bacteroides fragilis*, and has anti-*Plasmodium yoelii* infection activity.
