Penicillic acid is a polyketide mycotoxin produced by Aspergillus and Penicillium species. It exhibits cytotoxicity in rat alveolar macrophages in vitro and inhibits Fas ligand-induced apoptosis by blocking self-processing of caspase-8. - Decreases ATP levels in alveolar macrophages at 1 mM.
- Inhibits protein synthesis in alveolar macrophages at 0.3 mM.
- Dose-dependently inhibits DNA fragmentation induced by Jo2 in A2o cells.
- Reverses the reduction in cell viability of A2o cells exposed to Jo2.
- Prevents caspase-8 processing in Raji cells treated with higher concentrations of FasL.
