Phenol Red Broth with Sucrose, 8mL with Durham Tube, 10/Pk is a differential culture medium used to detect sucrose fermentation and gas production by bacteria. The medium contains phenol red as a pH indicator and sucrose as the fermentable carbohydrate source. Acid production during sucrose metabolism lowers the pH and changes the medium color from red to yellow, providing a clear visual indication of fermentation. Each tube also includes a Durham tube that captures gas produced during bacterial metabolism. The broth is supplied in 8mL volumes within 13 x 100mm screw cap polycarbonate tubes for reliable handling and contamination control. This medium is widely used in biochemical identification panels for enteric bacteria and other microbial species.
