Pyronaridine tetraphosphate is an orally active Mannich base anti-malarial agent. It is active against P. falciparum and Echinococcus granulosus infection. In vitro, it exhibits anti-P. falciparum activity with IC50 values in the nanomolar range (1.53-3.94 nM). In vivo, it has been shown to reduce parasitic burden in Echinococcus granulosus-infected mice and secondarily infected (cysts) mice, with higher exposure observed in the liver compared to plasma in male ICR mice.
