Liposomes are artificial spheres in aqueous PBS (phosphate buffered saline) solution. The liposomes consist of concentric phospholipid bilayers encapsulating a clodronate solution. These particles have a maximum size of 3 micron, forming a suspension in PBS. This suspension will tend to precipitate upon storage, forming a pellet on the bottom of the vial. The suspension should be shaken before administration to laboratory animals in order to recover the homogeneous suspension.
