Rimantadine hydrochloride is an orally active inhibitor for M2 protein. It blocks hydrogen ion channel activity, preventing virus entry and replication, and exhibiting broad-spectrum antiviral activity. It has shown efficacy in inhibiting RNA levels of hepatitis A virus (HAV) in Huh7 and IHH cells and promoting autophagy. In vivo studies also indicate anti-infectious activity in H3N2-infected mouse models.
