Silver sulfadiazine (AgSD) is a sulfonamide antibiotic that exerts a dual inhibitory action on bacterial growth. Its sulfa moiety (SD-SDZ) prevents bacterial folate absorption and subsequent DNA synthesis. Additionally, the silver released from Silver sulfadiazine binds and disrupts the DNA structure, thereby precluding bacterial DNA replication.
