Balanced salt solutions and powders used for molecular, protein, nucleic acid, and cell biology applications including cell culture, electrophoresis, ELISA, and chromatography processes; available in a variety of formulations and grades.
Buffer solutions serve to keep pH (acidity or alkalinity) nearly constant in a variety of chemical and biological applications. For example, a bicarbonate buffer helps maintain the pH of blood, a buffered saline maintains cellular contents at a consistent pH level, and buffers help maintain a narrow pH range for enzymes to function correctly.
Most biological samples used in research are kept at a pH of about 7.4. Common biological buffers used for tissue culture include Dulbeccos phosphate buffered saline (PBS), Tris base, HEPES, MOPS, PIPES, and other formulations developed for specific cell lines or applications. Most buffers used in cell culture are also DNase-, RNase-, and protease-free.
The choice of buffer for a particular biological reaction or site depends on several factors:
- Temperature
- Desired or target pH
- Buffer toxicity (to the system)
- Buffer interactions with other system components

DESCRIPTION: PAN-Biotech (10x) Trypsin 0.5% / EDTA 0.2% in PBS, w/o: Ca and Mg is a porcine pancreas-derived enzyme plus EDTA in a 10x concentrated PBS solution. Trypsin-EDTA solution is commonly used for the dissociation of anchorage-dependent (adherent) mammalian cells and tissues from culture surfaces. The concentration of trypsin necessary to dislodge cells from their substrate is dependent on the cell type and the age of the culture. Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), a chelating agent, is often added to trypsin solutions to enhance enzymatic activity by neutralizing calcium and magnesium ions that enhance cell-to-cell adhesion and obscure the peptide bonds on which trypsin acts. Bioworld Tris-Glycine Transfer Buffer (10X), 1 L
Tris-Glycine Transfer Buffer, 10X Concentrate.For Western blotting and gel electrophoresis. Tris-glycine buffer is used to make a Tris-glycine-methanol transfer buffer, which is the most common protein transfer buffer for wet blot transfers. The methanol prevents the gel from swelling during the transfer and enhances the protein binding to nitrocellulose.The 10× Tris-glycine buffer is diluted to 1× with methanol and water to make a solution containing 25 mM Tris, 192 mM glycine, and 20% methanol. Tris solutions are effective buffers for slightly basic conditions. Borate, a derivative of boric acid, is a weak proton donor but a Lewis acid that can accept an electron pair. EDTA is a chelator of divalent cations, mainly Mg2+. TBE is most commonly used for nucleic acid electrophoresis.For laboratory use only.
