4-Methoxyphenethyl alcohol is an aromatic alcohol and the primary component of the anise-like odor produced by Amorphophallus. It can inhibit the synthesis of protein, RNA, and DNA in *Escherichia coli*. In vitro, it exhibits a complete bacteriostatic concentration of 4.8 mM against *Escherichia coli*, concurrently inhibiting the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and protein.
