It has been shown to prolong human hair growth ex vivo by reducing apoptosis and enhancing the production of the anagen-prolonging growth factor IGF-1 within the outer root sheath (ORS). In vitro studies indicate that it retards spontaneous hair follicle (HF) regression (catagen development) ex vivo and significantly reduces apoptosis in hair matrix keratinocytes.
