A construct using locking plates and screws acts as an internal/external fixator. The construct is stiffer than conventional plates and screws and will require less contouring as it is not essential that the plate contacts the bone. Locking plates and screws are particularly popular in TPLO where significant savings in time (and morbidity) can be made.
