Many parts of your microscope can be updated or replaced including microscope lamps, lenses, and eyepieces. Replacement lamps, light sources, and power cords can extend the working lives of your microscopy equipment. New or replacement objectives and lenses can help increase the total magnification available with your microscope.
Add greater magnification or exchange your eyepiece for one with a reticule to more easily estimate the sizes of the items being viewed.
Replace or update your mechanical stage or clamps or add cell culture vessel adapters to facilitate specimen positioning.
Condensers can also be replaced, and conversion kits are available to add phase contrast, polarization, fluorescence, or other capabilities to your current system.
Some microscopes can be adapted for use with still or video cameras. Look for cameras and adapters designed for your specific microscope brand. Film and documentation-related products may also be available to support your record-keeping.
Temporary, semi-permanent, and more long-term slide storage options include:
- Slide racks that securely hold slides during staining procedures
- Folding fiberboard or plastic slide holders with horizontal indentations that keep microscope slides in place
- Slide storage boxes with vertical dividers; made from fiberboard, plastic, and wood and available in multiple sizes
- Slide holders and mailers for transporting slides safely
- Slide storage systems and cabinets for large quantities of slides or archival storage

Cargille PCB-Free Immersion oils were introduced in 1972. Today, no other immersion oil meets FDA criteria. Cargille 37 Immersion Oils have an index of 1.515 at 37 deg C. Consideration of these oils is also suggested where stage temperatures are elevated by sub-stage illuminators and high wattage projection equipment.

Viewing screens are easily damaged by the electron beam, especially at high accelerating voltages where knock-on damage can be severe. Structure Probe Inc HOPG SPI Supplies Brand Grade SPI-2 10x10x1 mm Thick, Package of 1 Piece
Grade SPI-2. Very similar to ZYB(see below), this grade exhibits a mosaic angle as small as 0.8° +/- 0.2°. This grade is slightly less highly ordered than SPI-1 but is acceptable for most users. The lateral grain size can be up to 0.5 mm but can be as large as 1 mm. Note that this grade is slightly less "cleavable" than the 0.4° mosaic spread product, that is, SPI-1. Most workers find this grade more than suitable for all but the most critical samples, but priced low enough for routine use. Some users prefer this grade to SPI-1 because the cleavage steps are slightly wavy, so samples are held in place better (e.g. better adhesion). Dimensions = 10 mm x 10 mm x 1 mm

These pinholes are prepared from pure copper foil, 3 mm in diameter, 25 microns thick. They possess very high roundness and edge retention. Blackened on one surface. Mounted in black anodized aluminum discs. Mounted in a recessed hole in an anodized holder, 16 mm in diameter.

Electron Microscopy Sciences Quantifoil Holey Carbon Film R 2/2 on Copper 300 mesh Grid
QUANTIFOIL is a perforated support foil with pre-defined hole size, shape and arrangement. It has advantages in electron microscopy (EM) or low-energy electron point source (LEEPS) microscopy when compared with conventional holey film.
QUANTIFOIL with circular holes is used in cryo-electron tomographic reconstruction. The roundness of the holes is advantageous with respect to the formation of an ice layer of constant thickness. The whole size chosen depends on the magnification used, and on whether or not one wishes to include support film in the image. Assessment of the image quality is easier when foil is included in the picture, because the power spectrum of a foil is stronger than that of unsupported ice.

Electron Microscopy Sciences Formvar/Carbon Film 10 nm/3-4 nm thick on Hexagonal 300 mesh Copper Grid
A formvar coated grid, stabilized with evaporated carbon film. This type of coating is excellent for specimen support, especially for ultra thin sections. Coated grids are optically checked followed by batch testing in the electron microscope. Packed in grid storage box. NOTE: All film is laid on the shiny side of the grid. Formvar is approximately 10 nm thick with 3 to 4 nm of carbon.
