Construction is of a chemically resistant anodized aluminum and utilizes the scissor jack principle for quick and accurate height adjustment with a single turn of the control knob. Optional items are an 8” x 8” extension plate and a 18” high vertical support rod. Urease, Jack bean is an enzyme derived from jack bean that catalyzes the hydrolysis of urea to carbon dioxide and ammonia. It is widely used in the determination of urea in various body fluids due to its specific enzymatic action.
- Optimal pH for activity is 7.4.
- Isoelectric point ranges from 5.0 to 5.2.
- Can be inhibited by substances such as 2-mercaptoethanol, acetohydroxamic acid, EDTA, phosphoramide, fluoride ion, 1,4-benzoquinone, and 2,5-dimethyl-1,4-benzoquinone.
- Soluble in 0.2 M sodium phosphate buffer (pH 7.0) at 10 mg/mL, forming clear to turbid solutions.
- Also soluble in pure water or buffers like MES, HEPES, and CHES, which do not inhibit its activity.
- Appears as a solid, typically white to light yellow in color.
- One unit of activity liberates 2.0 μmole of NH3 from urea per minute at pH 8.0 and 37°C.
