Swiss Tweezers with replaceable carbon fiber tips are great for applications requiring non-metalic, non-marring material is required to prevent damage to delicate or sensitive surfaces. The carbon fiber plastic tips offer a combination of precision and gentleness. These are great for handling electronics components that are sensitive to static electricity, because they are non-conductive. The tips on WPI Swiss Tweezers are pointed. These are hand forceps with a spring action letting you pinch the blades together to control the amount of pressure used. The handle is manufactured from an anti-magnetic stainless steel allow, which is suitable for autoclaving or chemical sterilization. These surgical forceps are quality Swiss-made instruments. Replacement carbon fiber tips are also available and sold separately.

Castroviejo Needle Holders are a surgical instrument used for microsurgery requiring precise control and manipulation of small needles, though they are most commonly used in ophthalmic surgery. Our Castroviejo Needle Holders feature fine tips for grasping and manipulation of small, delicate needles. The jaws can either be serrated (cross-hatched) or smooth. Serrated jaws help prevent slippage and ensures a secure grip on the needle, though this may not always be required. With fragile tissues, a serrated tip may cause excessive trauma or damage to the tissue, and a smooth tip may be preferred. Some synthetic sutures, such as polypropylene or PTFE, are less prone to slipping than natural sutures and may not require a serrated tip. If a surgeon is approximating a delicate tissue layer, a smooth tip may be chosen. The locking mechanism on the spring handles ensures the needle is held firmly and reduces the risk of slipping.

Benchtop Autoclave ideal for small scale sterilization of microdissection and veterinary instruments.
The autoclave comes pre-programmed for basic sterilization. Choose either the 120ºC or 134ºC temperature mode, and the cycle time is fixed. This is the perfect autoclave for small spaces.
The stainless steel sterilization chamber accommodates a variety of liquids, media, instruments, glassware and plasticware. A mechanical and electrical safety interlock prevents the door from being opened until the pressure is released (0 PSI).
Simply press the Start button, and the entire sequence runs–fill, sterilize, exhaust and dry.

What is CDOM?
Colored Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM) is organic matter whose optical properties are measurable using WPI’s Liquid Waveguide Capillary Cell (LWCC). CDOM occurs naturally in water systems and is derived from organic tannins. CDOM concentration depends on the location where samples are taken, with coastal waters showing higher CDOM concentrations compared to open-ocean waters. In addition, CDOM absorption depends on open-ocean water depth. LWCCs are fiber optic flow cells that combine an increased optical pathlength (1–500 cm) with small sample volumes ranging from 2.4 μL to about 3 mL.

WPI’s classical Ussing Chambers are well established perfusion chambers that are easy to operate, easy to control temperature, and easy to clean after use. The Ussing Chambers are machined from solid acrylic with eight entry ports for fluid lines, electrodes, or agar bridges. For easy, leak-free attachment of tubing and electrodes, all eight ports are luer type. The four ports for voltage and current electrodes are recessed to prevent formation of air bubbles in the chamber. The fluid compartments in each side of the chamber are separated by the epithelial membrane being studied. Sharp stainless steel pins on one side of the chamber hold the membrane in position and mate with holes in the opposite chamber interface.

The CardioPhys™ ECG system is a highly versatile tool for measuring ECG of a wide spectra of animals – as small as a zebrafish embryo to animals as large as an alligator.
The CardioPhys™ ECG is a bioamplifier that is designed to amplify the sum of electrical potentials from cardiac muscle, and other extracellular signals. The signal produced from cardiac recordings tracks the depolarization and repolarization of the cardiomyocytes as they contract in succession to pump blood through the heart. The amplifier is powered by two 9 V batteries to minimize electrical noise, which could interfere with or mask the voltage signal from the heart.
