Distillation Labware

Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

Distillation Vessel, 500mL, Receiving, Cylindrical, 105mm OD, ChemRxnHub, Compatible with CG-1947-A100. Cylindrical shaped distillation receiving vessel for use with ChemRxnHub™ benchtop systems for collecting distillate. The top of the vessel has two 0-8 Chem-cap valves with 1/2” OD Swagelock side arms that offer a convenient way to connect the receiver to CG-1975 PTFE tubing and compression fittings. Bottom of vessel has 0-14 drain valve with a 1/2” OD swagelock sidearm. The body of vessel has approximate volume graduations on the front and back. Vessel body diameter is compatible with CG-1947-A clamps which provide an easy way to support the receiver on the frame or hood lattice.

Adapter, Distilling/Splitting, 45/50, 0-12mm Valve, 3/4" Compression Fitting, Process Reactor. Compact and simple distilling/splitter adapter for use with Chemglass process reactors. Vapor flows upward freely through the large vapors holes to the condenser. Distillate flow is directed using the valve to either the receiving flask or back to the reactor. Control valve is either a 0-4mm or a 0-12mm PTFE with a 1/2” or 3/4” OD distillate takeoff for use with CG-1975 compression fittings and TFE tubing. Plugs are supplied complete with CG-309 Perfluoro o-rings.

Designed for use with the General Purpose Distillation Apparatus. Round bottom, 500 mL capacity. Long neck with branch and thermometer port. Neck extends 90 mm above flask body and branch extends 150 mm above flask body. Both neck and branch have 20-400 screw-thread finish. Thermometer port has 13-425 screw-thread finish.

100L Jacketed Reaction Vessel, Large Scale, 3" Beaded Pipe Drain Valve, 400mm Flange, Squatty. Jacketed large scale process reaction vessels. The 100L vessels have a 400mm ID flat ground flange. The inlet/outlet of the vessels are beaded pipe fittings for use with the CG-1964 and CG-1969-A beaded pipe adapters. Reactors have a 3 beaded pipe valve that is detachable. These flush bottom (zero dead space) valves are designed to prevent solids from collecting in the bottom of the vessel. The 100L vessels equipped with the detachable zero dead space valve have a lower silicone seal. Vessels are serial numbered and have a graduation scale on both sides showing approximate volume. PLEASE NOTE: BOTTOM DRAIN VALVE, BEADED PIPE COUPLINGS, AND ADAPTERS MUST BE PURCHASED SEPARATELY.

0-8mm Chem-Vac Chem-Cap Valve. CHEM-VAC CHEM-CAP valve has a single sidearm sealed at a 90 angle to the barrel. This inexpensive configuration allows for the lower portion of the barrel to be sealed directly to the apparatus being constructed, making for more compact, stronger assemblies.
